The Pick Ups are a local homegrown band that sound like the lovechild of Neil Young and Stevie Nicks raised on a steady diet of Can-Con and long winters. It's folkie indie rock that doesn't rock too hard. The music is very 90s east-coast meets strings, and also has a front-porch guitar strum of blue-grass timelessness. The music would be contemplative and dreamy if it wasn't for that Tim Horton's reference which wakes me out of my reverie for another dose of reality, caffeine and late nights at Robarts. I'm not sure what counts for indie-cred anymore, but at least they didn't say Starbucks.
